Over and Under – Four Mountain Passes

This tour incorporates the best of the Western Cape’s scenery. From your hotel we travel toward the village of Gordons Bay, passing the beach resort of the Strand. If the weather is kind to us, it’s a great place for a refreshing swim in the sea before continuing over the first mountain pass – known as Sir Lowry's pass. At the top of the pass we stop to enjoy the view across False Bay.

As we continue over the mountain, we pass through the village of Grabouw with its deciduous fruit orchards, and start the ascent to Viljoens Pass.
  Over and Under
At the view point, stunning views over the Theewaterskloof Dam are enjoyed, before driving along the shoreline of the dam, and up the third (and most dramatic) Franschoek pass. Again the scenery is amazing, and halfway down the other side, we stop for lunch at one of the famous restaurants of the gourmet capital of the Cape.

After a fantastic meal, we have a short drive into the town and spend some time walking down the old Main street. This is a good time to stretch ones legs, walk off lunch and if you desire, browse the many shops this fascinating town has to offer. Franshhoek was founded by the French Huguenots in the late 1600s and the influence is evident in the architecture and cuisine.

We continue along the valley before traversing the final pass on the tour, Hells Heights, which brings us into Stellenbosch, the heart of the wine industry in South Africa. Stellenbosch is the second oldest town in South Africa and has a large Afrikaans language University, famous, amongst other things, for producing many Springbok rugby players. We drive through the oak lined streets of the old town, before continuing through the winelands in the direction of Cape Town and your hotel.
